Early Encounters In Aotearoa

Hi Bloggers , Today I'm Going To Be Talking About The Early Encounters In Aotearoa.

The first European explorer to arrive in Aotearoa was Abel Tasman, He arrived in 1642. He saw the island thinking it was some kind of massive island. So he decided to give it the name " Nova Zealandia". Skip near around a century later , another explorer discovered the island in 1769 named James Cook. But he was nicer than others Aotearoa has come across.

The chief navigator Tupaia wanted to help the explorers that arrived at Aotearoa. Something that was pretty bad was that the Europeans were bringing diseases to Aotearoa.

At that point very bad things were happening , it was like war.

The things that they would use were muskets. Muskets are guns that can either be semi=automatic , or a one shot weapon. There was a war called Musket Wars , they would use them to gun down their enemies. The musket wars ended in the late 1830s.

  1. Very detailed information Travis, especially as it relates to the use of muskets. Helpful hint: you don't need to use the word 'more'in this phrase that you used, "But he was more nicer".. Good to see you've completed the task accurately.
